Jan/Feb 2018 • 27 2017 Rotary honorees Jerrol and Alice Miles Rotary Club of New Albany Toast Celebrates Jerrol and Alice Miles "Miles of Service" was far more than a play on words for the 24th annual Rotary Com- munity Toast and Benefit Banquet late last year. The theme typified the impact that honorees Jerrol and Alice Miles have had on the community for decades. Huber Winery's Plantation Hall was filled with family, friends, Rotarians, and mem- bers of the business community who gathered to celebrate the long-time New Albany residents. A portion of the proceeds from the gala evening will go to two non-profits chosen by the Mileses: Brandon's House, across from New Albany High School and offers free counseling to teens; and The Center for Women and Families, whose New Albany site offers support and shelter for those who have been abused and works to co-create vi- olence-free lives, families, and communities. The remaining proceeds will be used by Rotary to support a variety of non-profits. For details of Jerrol and Alice's impressive journey and service, see the feature on pages 32-33. Meeting old friends and making new ones was a theme at the annual Rotary event. Joining the camaraderie were Dr. Dan Eichenberger and Dayna Ashley, board members of the Floyd Memorial Hospital Founda- tion; and David and Tammie Neal, founders and CEO of CyberTek. All smiles before the inspiring program began were Kara Brown of The Center for Women and Families; Fran Fach, Rotary Club of New Al- bany president; Susan Parr, retired director of Brandon's House; Carol Dawson, who wrote the program tribute to the Mileses; and the Rev. O. Lacy Evans, former pastor of Jones Memorial AME Zion Church, who gave the invocation. Feasting on food and fellowship were Susan Waiz; Nicole Yates, presi- dent-elect of the Rotary Club of Jeffersonville; Louie Jenson; and Andrew Wymer.
