Sept/Oct 2018 • 20 Story by Darian Eswine Photos by Michelle Hockman A J Huber, a seventh-generation Huber, remembers running around with his grandpa when he was about 8 years old. His dad would run the farm and his grandpa would take him out to teach him about training fruit and different cuts on trees. Now his kids are making the same kinds of memories. "A lot I learned he taught me then, I still remember today," Huber said. Huber's Orchard is celebrating 175 years this year. The family emigrated from Baden-Baden Germany in 1843 and settled on 40 acres. They started with fruit farming and veggies and then opened the Dairy Barn in the 1920s. "In the 1960s, Grandpa Carl and his brother Gerald started U-Pick," Huber said. "That really started bringing people out to the farm." In the 1970s, they opened the win- Fall Favorites in So IN Huber's Orchard and Winery Making Memories in Southern Indiana for 175 Years Huber's Orchard is celebrating 175 years this year.
