With great daily specials and desserts to match, Christie's is defnitely worth the trip to Salem's beautiful and historic square. Once there, you're just a short drive away from the historic Beck's Mill (www. becksmill.org). Enjoy the peacefulness of the country roads that take you to this working mill, which was originally built in 1808. Also nearby is the John Hay Center (www.johnhaycenter.org), complete with a working 1830s replica pioneer village. Let the kids burn of some energy just a few blocks west of Salem Square at the impressive Riley's Place Playground. Feast BBQ 116 West Main Street, New Albany www.feastbbq.com Even though it's located in Southern In- diana, Feast is so good it's been called the best BBQ place "in Louisville." The food is simply incredible, but Feast also features a variety of craft beers and claims to have the largest bourbon selection in the state. While you're in bustling downtown New Albany, take some time for a walk around town to check out the cool shops and local businesses, many celebrating and selling the work of local artists and craftsmen. Regalo (www.regaloart.com), located just a short walk from Feast, fea- tures "unique gifts and original art." And when you're ready to walk of some of that great BBQ, check out the Ohio River Greenway, featured in our Top Ten list this issue. Fruits and Flowers www.fruitsandfowers.org Another great resource for exploring ideas is the Southern In- diana Fruits and Flowers Trail (www. fruitsandflow- ers.org), which highlights "or- chards, gar- dens, farm markets and restaurants that celebrate local homegrown bounty." Here are a few locations along the trail you might consider: Winzerwald Winery 26300 North Indian Lake Road, Bristow Enjoy great local wine and this beauti- ful vineyard located in the Hoosier Na- tional Forest area. Huber Orchard, Winery and Distillery 19816 Huber Road, Borden The largest farm in southern Indiana has something for the whole family: or- chards, pumpkins, petting zoo, tractor rides, a winery and distillery. Your family can defnitely make a day or evening tak- ing in all that Huber's has to ofer. Take a drive on the Ohio River Scenic Byway Running through all 13 Southern In- diana counties that comprise the state's southern border, the Ohio River Scenic Byway is 302 miles of the best our area has to ofer. Designated one of the original 14 Na- tional Scenic Byways in America, the route features not only stunning views — on a pretty day you'll meet hundreds of motorcyclists enjoying the scenery — but also antique shops, restaurants, artist studios, farm markets, outdoor ad- ventures, wineries, bed & breakfast inns, casinos, and more. Start your Ohio River Scenic Byway adventure at www.ohioriverbyway.com. The John Hay Center in Salem includes a working replica pioneer village. Panoramic Ohio River scenes are preva- lent on the byway, including this stop at The Overlook & Walter's Pub in Leavenworth. // Story jumps to page 34 MarchApril 2014.indd 31 2/23/14 9:48 PM
