workplace," notes agency director Doug Robson. "We focus on meeting the needs of all people on the work- force spectrum; from those who are unemployed to employed workers who need new skills to ensure their job retention." Classes are taught by experienced profession- als and allow students the opportunity to explore vari- ous features of the software in a small class environ- ment. Computer classes are coordinated quarterly and typically include a reference book. A schedule of Spring 2014 classes is now availa- ble on Harrison County Life- long Learning's website. Today there are few jobs that are technology- free. Industries ranging from manufacturing to hospitality often require the knowledge of a personal computer for data entry, internet browsing and email communication. Experts speculate more than three-quarters of all jobs in the United States now re- quire some level of technolo- gy literacy. In addition to job related computer skills, hob- bies and leisure activities can be enhanced by technol- ogy. Almost every aspect of life can be done on a com- puter. So, in an effort to address the growing need of computer skills, Harrison County Lifelong Learning offers affordable computer education classes. Computer Basics is a class designed for stu- dents with little or no com- puter experience. The class includes weekly instruction with additional lab time for extra practice and one-on- one instructor attention. The class also gives students an introduction to social media like Facebook and Twitter and allows them to become more comfortable with using a personal computer to do research, access news, con- duct business transactions, and communicate with friends and family. Several Microsoft ap plic at i ons , inc ludi ng Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint are also offered at Lifelong Learning. The classes focus on practical applications for software most common in the work- place.
